In this blog post, we will guide you through the process of submitting a sharing request, presenting as a self-pay patient, and sharing eligible medical expenses with the Zion HealthShare community.

1. Submit a Sharing Request

The first step in accessing healthcare through Zion HealthShare is to submit a sharing request. Unless it is an emergency, we encourage you to contact our dedicated Medical Advocacy team before scheduling any medical appointments. Our knowledgeable team members will provide guidance and assistance, helping you navigate the complexities of the healthcare system.

When submitting your sharing request, be sure to provide as much information as possible. Detailed information aids in the determination process and ensures a thorough evaluation of your medical need. You can open a sharing request prior to a medical appointment and can later add additional documentation through your member portal. We will reach out if additional information is needed to make a determination for your sharing request. 

2. Present as a Self-Pay Patient

It’s important to note that Zion HealthShare is not insurance. Therefore, when attending your medical appointments, please present yourself as a self-pay patient and request self-pay discounts. 

3. Share with the Community

Eligible medical expenses will be shared among community members. When your medical need is determined to be eligible for sharing, Zion HealthShare will collaborate with you to coordinate payments to your healthcare provider. With proper documentation, your sharing request could be processed in as quickly as 5 business days. 

After your appointment, please request itemized statements from your provider for each bill you receive. These itemized statements should be uploaded through your member portal, allowing Zion HealthShare to accurately assess and share the eligible expenses incurred. By providing itemized statements, you contribute to the transparency and efficiency of the sharing process, ensuring that costs are shared appropriately within the community.
