Feeling the pinch of rising medical costs? Zion HealthShare offers a better way: community-based health sharing. This means joining a network of like-minded individuals who share the responsibility of medical expenses. This can translate to lower monthly contributions compared to traditional health insurance premiums. Plus, there’s no annual or lifetime limit on sharing once you meet your initial unshareable amount (IUA).
Curious about Zion HealthShare Membership? Membership with Zion HealthShare is simple and rewarding. Before you jump in, let’s discuss three important things you need to know.
- Principles of Membership
- Initial Unshareable Amount (IUA)
- Pre-Membership Medical Conditions
The Principles of Membership
Zion HealthShare is built on a foundation of shared values that promote a healthy and supportive community. This supportive environment is built on a foundation of shared values. Understanding these principles ensures a good fit for both you and the community. These values include a commitment to ethical behavior, responsible health practices, and mutual respect. For a complete overview of the five core principles, we encourage you to visit our Member Guidelines Page.
The Initial Unshareable Amount
This is the amount you’d pay towards a medical expense before the Zion HealthShare community starts sharing costs. We’ll explain how much it typically is and how often you might pay it.
The initial unshareable amount, or IUA, is the amount that you are personally responsible for paying toward your need before the Zion HealthShare community will share in medical expenses. So, how does it work?
- You experience a medical need. This could be anything from a broken bone, maternity, surgery, or other medical event, as long as it falls under the medical expenses eligible for sharing.
- You pay your IUA towards the expense. Zion HealthShare offers different IUA options, so you can choose the one that best fits your budget.
- Once you’ve paid your IUA, the Zion HealthShare community kicks in. They’ll share 100% of your remaining eligible sharing requests associated with that specific medical need.
- There is no annual or lifetime limit on sharing. As long as your need is eligible for sharing, the community will continue to share in your medical expenses.
Pre-Membership Medical Conditions
We understand that many people have health concerns before joining Zion HealthShare. The good news is Zion HealthShare offers a welcoming phased-in approach to pre-membership medical conditions. Here’s how it works:
What is a Pre-Membership Medical Condition?
Zion HealthShare defines a pre-membership medical condition as anything for which a member has been examined, diagnosed, taken medication, had symptoms, a personal history of or known increased risk of conditions that may arise or worsen in pregnancy, or received medical treatment within the 24 months prior to their membership start date. Sharing requests related to pre-membership medical conditions are only eligible for sharing if the condition was regarded as cured and did not require treatment or present symptoms for 24 months prior to the membership start date.
What if I have a Pre-Membership Medical Condition?
If you have medical condition that qualifies as a Pre-Membership Medical Condition, Zion HealthShare offers a phased-in sharing approach. This means you’ll have a waiting period before the community can share costs for your pre-membership medical condition. Here’s a breakdown of the sharing phases:
- Year One: After your first year as a member, you can share up to $25,000 of eligible medical expenses per sharing request related to your pre-membership medical condition.
- Year Three: The amount eligible for sharing increases to $50,000 per sharing request.
- Year Four and Beyond: After four years of membership, the community will share up to $125,000 per sharing request for your pre-membership medical condition, per year, as long as you remain a member.
