Zion HealthShare

Zion HealthShare was founded with a simple idea: that people can come together to support one another in times of need. Rooted in the beautiful town of St. George, Utah, our organization takes its name from one of the country’s most iconic natural landmarks, Zion National Park. But the connection runs deeper than geography. Our name reflects a commitment to community, to shared values, and to the belief that something truly meaningful happens when people unite for a common good.

Too often, healthcare feels transactional and impersonal. Zion HealthShare was created to change that. We are a nonprofit medical cost-sharing community built on trust, compassion, and connection. Our name reflects not only where we’re located but who we are.

The Inspiration Behind Our Name: Zion National Park

Zion National Park, near our headquarters in St. George, Utah, captivates with its towering sandstone cliffs, vibrant desert ecosystems, and winding slot canyons. Its name, rooted in a Hebrew word meaning “sanctuary” or “refuge,” evokes safety and unity which closely reflect Zion HealthShare’s mission.

When Zion HealthShare was established in 2019, the name was chosen to reflect the spirit of sanctuary, openness, and connection found in Zion National Park. Just as the park draws people from across the world to explore its iconic trails and sweeping views, Zion HealthShare invites people from all backgrounds to become part of something bigger than themselves. We are open to everyone who embraces our Principles of Membership, which emphasize healthy living, personal responsibility, and caring for others.

The Heart of Zion HealthShare

Contrary to common assumptions, Zion HealthShare is not a religiously affiliated organization or ministry. Like the wide range of ecosystems in Zion National Park, our community thrives on the idea that people from all backgrounds can unite to create something stronger and more vibrant.

Community: The Core of Zion HealthShare

The value of “Community” lies at the heart of Zion HealthShare, shaping every aspect of our work. We unite individuals, families, and businesses to share the responsibility of healthcare costs, fostering a network where mutual support creates strength. Our medical cost-sharing model rests on the belief that like-minded people, working together, can achieve more than they could alone.

Members contribute monthly to share in the eligible medical expenses for others in the community. Each household meets a set amount per medical need, known as the Initial Unshareable Amount (IUA), before the community shares the remaining costs (up to three IUAs on a rolling annual basis). This approach ensures transparency, affordability, and a deep sense of mutual care. By June 2025, our community has grown to over 50,000 members across the United States, reflecting the trust and connection we’ve built.

The power of this community shines through members’ experiences. One family, welcoming a new child, shared:

“Zion HealthShare is amazing. We used them for help with maternity costs, and they helped us so much! We didn’t have to pay for much other than our IUA, which was amazing. So we could really just focus on our new baby, not finances. The way it should be! They sent us flowers when our son was born. You wouldn’t hear of an insurance company sending flowers. That’s why I like Zion, it’s real people and a real community who care about you! Thank you for all you do!!”

How Zion HealthShare Embodies Community

Our commitment to community extends beyond sharing medical expenses. We work to create an environment where members feel welcomed, empowered, and cared for. Here’s how we bring that to life:

  1. Inclusivity for All : Zion HealthShare welcomes everyone, regardless of religious beliefs. We do not require members to follow a particular religion. Instead, we focus on shared ethical values like personal responsibility, healthy living, and helping others. This openness creates a community where people from all walks of life feel at home.
  2. Transparency and Simplicity: Members can count on clear, accessible guidelines and a straightforward process for submitting sharing requests. Our team works diligently to process requests quickly, answer questions, and help members understand their medical expenses. We aim to make healthcare less confusing and more collaborative.
  3. Empowering Choice: Zion HealthShare does not use provider networks, so members are free to choose any doctor or facility. By paying as self-pay patients, they often access lower rates, and our team can assist in finding fair cost providers for labs, imaging, or surgery. Members have the freedom to make their own decisions with support behind them.  We also offer flexibility in enrollment. Because we don’t operate on an open enrollment schedule, individuals and families can join at any time throughout the year, whenever it makes sense for them.
  4. Promoting Wellness: A healthy community starts with healthy individuals. Our membership for individuals and families includes preventive services, 24/7 telehealth, and access to our exclusive prescription discount program. By prioritizing preventive care, we help members stay proactive about their health, reducing medical needs and fostering resilience across our community. For members with a company & organization membership, these great services can be added to your membership for a low monthly fee. Check with your benefits administrator for more details.
  5. Personalized Support : We offer one-on-one assistance when members face medical challenges. Whether it’s guidance through the sharing process or support understanding a bill, our team is here to serve. Our goal is to make every member feel like more than just a number.
