“We appreciate being partners with all of the incredible people in the DPC world that are also dedicating themselves and their skillset into making an impact and improving healthcare”
ST. GEORGE, Utah — Ashton Casper, President of Zion HealthShare, and Camila Guerrero, Zion HealthShare Board Member and healthcare innovator, recently appeared as featured guests on the My DPC Story podcast to discuss healthcare access, Direct Primary Care, and community based medical cost sharing solutions.
The episode, titled What Happens if You Get Sick for 6 Months, explores how patients participating in Direct Primary Care practices can prepare for larger medical events and long term health needs.
During the conversation, Casper and Guerrero shared insights into how community focused healthcare models can complement Direct Primary Care by promoting transparency, affordability, and patient centered decision making.
“We work so hard to provide care for people, not numbers,” Casper said during the interview. “We help people navigate the healthcare system through the cash pay process. We like to say that we have left the system.”
Guerrero, who co-founded a Direct Primary Care practice and is widely recognized for her work in patient centered healthcare innovation, reflected on her personal journey within healthcare.
“The way things were going, it was more like I was working for the government and insurance companies than I was working to help patients. I just knew there was something better out there,” Guerrero said.
She emphasized that strengthening direct physician patient relationships and restoring accessibility are essential to improving long term community health outcomes.
Conversations like these help illustrate real options for individuals seeking alternatives to traditional healthcare payment structures. Both Direct Primary Care practices and health sharing communities can support patients when unexpected medical needs arise.
The My DPC Story podcast, created by Dr. Maryal Concepcion, provides a platform for physicians, practice leaders, and healthcare advocates to share insights from the growing Direct Primary Care movement.
The episode featuring Zion HealthShare leaders offers practical perspectives on navigating healthcare costs and expanding access through collaborative, community driven solutions.
“We appreciate being partners with all of the incredible people in the DPC world that are also dedicating themselves and their skillset into making an impact and improving healthcare,” Casper added.
Through the podcast, the discussion created meaningful dialogue around expanding access, cost transparency, and practical solutions for clinicians and families seeking alternatives to traditional insurance models.
Following the episode, Guerrero and Preston Guthrie, Director of Sales at Zion HealthShare, hosted a live question and answer session on February 13.
The event provided Direct Primary Care physicians and prospective members the opportunity to ask questions and gain additional insight into how these models can work together.
The full episode is available on major streaming platforms and on the My DPC Story website.
