How We Respond to Reviews
Our commitment to privacy applies to all reviews, whether positive or negative. We cannot confirm anyone’s membership or publicly discuss medical information, individual sharing requests, or account details, even when those details appear in a review.
We welcome the opportunity to discuss questions and concerns directly. Call 888-920-9466 or email member@zionhealthshare.org to share feedback or get help. A private conversation allows our team to review the relevant information and provide a more complete answer.
We value your feedback
We appreciate hearing about your experiences with Zion HealthShare, including what went well and where we could do better. Whether you leave a Google review or share feedback directly with our staff, your perspective helps us understand how we are serving our community. Listening to feedback helps us put our core values into practice through service with compassion, clear communication, and a culture of transparency.
Understanding Common Questions and Concerns
Below are examples of situations members may encounter, explanations of how the process works, and ways our team can help.
Why are medical records needed to determine sharing eligibility?
Medical records help our Determination Adjudicators understand whether an expense relates to a pre-membership medical condition and whether waiting periods or sharing limits apply.
For example, receiving a diagnosis after enrolling does not always mean the condition began after membership started. Records may show related symptoms or treatment within the 24 months before your membership start date.
This is why bills and receipts alone may not provide enough information to determine sharing eligibility. If you have questions about the information requested or how a waiting period applies, our team can walk you through it.
What if I miss the deadline to submit an expense?
Sharing requests and each itemized bill or statement must be submitted within six months of the date of service. That timeframe begins when you receive care, rather than when the bill arrives. Expenses submitted after the deadline may be ineligible for sharing.
We understand that managing medical expenses can be overwhelming. If you are unsure what to submit or when it is due, contact us as soon as possible. We can help you understand the requirements and steps to take.
What if I disagree with a sharing determination?
If you believe the Member Guidelines were applied incorrectly, you may submit an appeal with a written explanation and supporting documentation within 30 days of the determination. Membership must remain active throughout the appeals process. A committee that includes trained medical professionals reviews appeals, and its decision is final within that process.
Our goal is to help wherever the Member Guidelines allow while applying them consistently across the community. If an expense remains ineligible after an appeal, we can explain the applicable guideline and how it relates to the determination. You may also ask whether the Additional Giving Fund could be an option. This separate fund has its own requirements, and assistance is not guaranteed.
Why can processing times vary?
The number of sharing requests we receive affects processing times. Our Member Needs team works toward a processing time of about two weeks. During busier periods, particularly summer and the final months of the year, processing may take four to six weeks.
Providing all required information when submitting a sharing request can help prevent unnecessary delays. If information is missing, your processor may need to request additional documentation before moving forward.
As our community grows, we are hiring and training additional team members. Training takes time because accurate review is an important part of processing sharing requests.
We understand that waiting can be stressful, especially when medical bills are arriving. If you need an update, contact your processor or Member Support so we can review the status and explain whether anything else is needed.
Why did my assigned processor change?
Each sharing request is assigned a processor, and we aim to keep that person with the request from start to finish. A change may be necessary if a processor moves to another department, leaves the organization, or another circumstance requires reassignment.
If you are unsure who is handling your sharing request, Member Support can help you identify the appropriate contact.
What if my concern involves a third-party service?
Some services available to members are provided by separate organizations. For example, a prescription order or virtual care appointment may involve a third-party service provider’s systems and customer service team.
That organization may be best equipped to resolve an issue directly related to its service. We still want to hear about your experience, and our team can help clarify who handles the concern.
Depending on the situation, we may communicate with the organization on your behalf, help identify an information mismatch, or confirm that it has the correct membership information. We are willing to answer questions and advocate for our members when concerns involve another organization.
What if I joined through an employer or another administrator?
Zion HealthShare is a nonprofit medical cost-sharing community, not health insurance. This remains true whether you enroll directly, through an employer, or third-party administrator, or learn about Zion HealthShare through a direct primary care (DPC) practice, broker, or another partner.
If you are unsure how your membership works or received information that was unclear, you are welcome to contact us directly. We can explain our role, your membership, and how eligible medical expenses may be shared according to the Member Guidelines.
After enrollment, we email members information about attending a live orientation or scheduling an orientation call. Orientation provides an opportunity to learn about sharing requests, pre-membership medical conditions, submission deadlines, and other membership responsibilities. It is also a chance to ask questions about anything you do not understand.
